Sutton Salt LakeEnjoy a walk through tussocks and spectacular schist rock formations to the Sutton Salt Lake, New Zealand’s only inland Salt Lake. FishingFor some of the most superb fishing in New Zealand, the Taieri River is probably the best kept fisherman's secret there is. The Taieri River is a river of huge importance to the area. Its catchment is almost 20 percent of Otago and it is New Zealand's third longest river at 318 km. It has a variety of fish life, most notable the introduced brown trout and salmon. Enjoy 2 hours fishing on the Taieri River with a local guide who knows the bests spots to cast a line. CurlingThe township of Naseby in the Maniototo has become the country’s curling capital with the completion of New Zealand’s first International and Olympic standard indoor curling rink. Curling is a sport enjoyed by both sexes and by all ages. It is a true lifetime sport, instilling team spirit and respect for one’s opponent, any discrepancy being amicably resolved amongst the players themselves. The traditions of curling strongly emphasise fair play and proper etiquette on and off the ice. It is a sport where beginners are warmly welcomed into more experienced company – curlers are keen for others to share their enjoyment! Partake in a 2 hour ‘Have a Go’ session and learn how to play the ancient sport of curling. Sessions include tuition, stones, brooms and ice time. HuntingMake your hunting dreams come true amidst the spectacular scenery of the Maniototo. Your experienced guide will offer both serious trophy hunters and recreational hunters the opportunity to hunt big game and small game in their natural habitat. Mountain BikingNaseby Forest has everything a XC rider could hope for, excellent single track (up, down and all around), open fast fire roads, creeks and gully tracks and many a friendly tree to remind you to concentrate on your riding while bouncing along the picturesque forest paths. The track crisscrosses an old gold miners race, a unique bit of Naseby History for you to enjoy on route. Try the “Bowl” at the head of the Hog Burn Gully – it’s a dug out hill side that has a way of spitting you out at speed into the air. Great fun!
